Additional Information

GoCary Celebrates Bike Month by Connecting
Cycling, Transit, and Community

It's Bike Cary Month Graphic

This May, the Town of Cary and GoCary are inviting residents to celebrate National Bike Month with a full lineup of events, activities, and resources designed to promote healthier lifestyles and multimodal transportation.

Established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month is a nationwide initiative that highlights the many benefits of bicycling, from improving personal health to reducing environmental impact and strengthening community connections. In Cary, the celebration brings those benefits to life through accessible, local experiences for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Bike Cary Bingo Encourages Exploration

A highlight of this year’s celebration is the Bike Cary Bingo challenge, an interactive way for residents to explore the town while riding. Participants can download a Bingo card, complete a variety of cycling-related activities throughout the month, and submit their entries by May 31 for a chance to win one of three bike safety bundles.

A Month of Events for All Ages

Bike Month in Cary officially kicked off on May 1 at the Bikes, Bands and Boats event at Fred G. Bond Metro Park. The event featured a community bike parade, live music, and family-friendly activities, setting the tone for a month centered on movement and connection.

Additional events throughout May include:

  • Community bike rides across Cary
  • Bike to School Day celebrations
  • Educational and safety-focused programming

With more than 100 miles of greenways, Cary provides an ideal setting for both recreational and commuter cycling.

GoCary Supports Multimodal Transportation

GoCary plays a key role in supporting Bike Month by making it easier than ever to combine biking with public transit. Every GoCary bus is equipped with a front-mounted bike rack, allowing riders to seamlessly integrate cycling into their daily commutes or recreational outings.

This “Rack-n-Roll” approach expands access to Cary’s extensive network of parks and greenways while supporting a more sustainable transportation system.

Bike on GoCary Bus

GoCary routes provide convenient access to many popular outdoor destinations, connecting riders to 10 parks across Cary, each offering amenities such as playgrounds, trails, open green space, and scenic natural areas.

Easy Trip Planning and Fare-Free Access

Residents can plan their Bike Month outings using the GoCary App, which provides real-time bus tracking, route information, and stop locations. Combined with Cary’s fare-free transit service, GoCary offers a convenient and cost-effective way to explore the community.

For those new to combining biking and transit, GoCary also provides a step-by-step Rack-n-Roll guide to help riders safely load and unload their bicycles.

Encouraging a Healthier, More Connected Community

Bike Month is more than a celebration, it’s an opportunity for residents to rethink how they move through their community. Whether commuting to work, visiting a local park, or simply enjoying the outdoors, combining cycling with transit offers a flexible, environmentally friendly alternative to driving.
